The first price attached to an order may not be the last piece of cost information a merchant receives. That is why we’re working on invoices and landed-cost revisions in Merchavelo Inventory.
Information arrives at different times
A supplier invoice and a freight charge may reach a business on different days. An order may involve more than one invoice. A quantity correction can also change the context for a cost calculation.
A product that supports this work needs a way to represent the additional information. It also needs to make clear which inputs a displayed cost uses.
A small example
Consider an illustrative purchase of ten identical units for a total of $100. If a later $20 delivery charge is allocated equally across those ten units, the combined example is $120, or $12 per unit.
The useful part of that calculation is its explanation: the ten units, the original amount, the additional charge, and the allocation assumption. A final number by itself does not tell the person reviewing it how it was reached.
Real purchasing can involve different products, quantities, currencies, and allocation decisions. Our development work needs to keep those inputs understandable rather than assume that every order looks like this example.
Why we’re working with revisions
Merchavelo Inventory’s development build includes multiple invoices and landed-cost revisions. The aim is to preserve context when the underlying information changes.
When a later charge is added, a person should be able to see that the cost basis has changed. Reviewing a new version should have a clear relationship to the earlier information, including any previous approval or update.
This is also why an invoice, an accepted quantity, and a cost update are distinct parts of the workflow. Bringing them together does not remove the need to understand each one.
From implementation to useful software
Calculation checks and revision behavior are part of our testing. Merchant validation is a separate part of preparing the product: actual purchasing records and day-to-day decisions can reveal needs that a simplified example cannot.
The app remains in private development and testing. We have not announced public availability. For questions about our costing work, contact us about Merchavelo Inventory.
